Lama Marut will provide a comprehensive overview of yoga philosophy. He will teach from the classic yoga text – Bhagavad Gita – and he will unveil an exciting new translation and commentary of the Yoga Upanishads. Cindy Lee will be sharing stories from our great Mahasiddha lineage and will teach with Lama Marut on the Foundations of a spiritual practice. In two 2-hour philosophy classes a day, we will cover a tremendous amount of material, and you will reach a new level of understanding not only of yoga philosophy, but of how to live a happy, fulfilling life.
This retreat will take place at Camp Galilee on the shores of Lake Tahoe. We will start the day with meditation and yoga asana led by Michael Johnson, Brandy Davis & David FIshman. Then we will have our daily Sanskrit class with David White, a passionate Sanskrit instructor. This course will get you up close and personal with the Sanskrit sounds and characters. Sanskrit will be followed by group check-in and some discussion. We will then have 3 hours in the afternoon to lounge on the beach, swim and kayak (or study if you’re like that). The evening program will begin with story time or kirtan. Mornings and evenings we will be in silence, in order to deepen the retreat experience.
This training is a deep practice appropriate for all yoga practitioners, beginners, serious practitioners, YSI teachers and all teachers of other yoga lineages. It is also suitable to the general public, including students of Buddhism who wish to receive complementary teachings from the yoga philosophical perspective. As Lama Marut’s teachings to the general public will be limited in the future to only a very few programs and venues once a year, those who wish to continue receiving teachings from him are encouraged to enroll.
This years curriculum is different from last years, and we hope to welcome back last years COY attendees for more inspiration and fun.
For those unable to attend the entire ten days, the first 3 evening sessions will be open as a mini series, Foundations of Yoga.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
